Beginning Blogging

Well, I did it. I joined the "blogosphere" that I keep hearing about on this newfangledy internet doohickey.

I've been keeping an online journal in one form or another for almost ten years, so I feel like an old fogey even though I'm new to this particular format. In the early days, there weren't many of us recording the boring minutiae of our hopes and dreams. Now everyone has a blog. People's pets have blogs. I wouldn't be surprised to find out my pets have blogs.

It's funny, but I'm usually the last person I know to own or use new technology. I still have a VCR which I only got three years ago, while all my pals were buying TiVOs or DVRs or what have you. I only got a cellphone fairly recently, and it doesn't take pictures or play music or shave my legs. It just makes and takes calls. I only switched from cassette tapes to CDs in the mid-90s. I wrote my first stories on an ancient typewriter that had no functioning quote key and I still write a lot with an old fountain pen. I swear I'm not a Luddite--and I'm even still kind of young! For some reason, technology just races past me and I'm left standing there blinking in the dust.

The exception, as I mentioned above, is the internet. As a little kid, I used to visit the old BBS places that you had to dial up individually. I can remember asking people if they had an "email address" and getting blank looks in return. I joined eBay ten years ago, back when you only had about a ten percent chance of finding what you were looking for. Now I'm pretty sure you could buy, say, everything from collectible misprinted Swedish mustard packets to Christmas-themed goat porn. Not that I've looked for either.

Anyway, I hope to keep this updated more than I did at the other site. I'm counting on this sleek new "blog" interface to make it easier on me. If that's what the kids are calling it these days.
